In the final game of the season CG 2 performed the Great Escape on Saturday against Welshpool who arrived with 8 player after 3 withdrawals on the morning of the game. Having won the toss CG broke with traditional thinking and chose to bat first with their strong batting line up. This did not look a great decision 36 overs later and 113 all out. Tim Turner with 42 made batting look easy and only 29 extras and Tim Smith’s 17 saw CG get over 100. For Welshpool young Harry Bowen took 3-8 off his 8 overs. In reply Dave Whitehouse and Dale Evans cruised past 50 with ease ,hitting an ample supply of full tosses to the boundary. As happens in cricket a moment of brilliance can change the game . This came in the form of a wonder catch from shaun southern. It was like a magic trick. One minute the ball was flying through the air , the next it disappeared into Shauns outstretched hand . The new bat was then comprehensively bowled first ball by Helen Morris and the next bat narrowly avoided being caught off the hat trick ball . The balance of the game having changed. Alex Carter having changed ends took 2-21 and Tarik took 3-11 to mop up the tail for an unlikely 14 run victory as the skipper took the matchwinning catch to bring the season to a close. Not sure how we won , but there you are. Well done to everyone for sticking to the task yesterday and throughout the season.
