Another half century for Ruch saves the day!
Despite the weather, the firsts managed to complete their division 3 match against league leaders Wheaton Aston on Saturday after both captains had sensibly agreed to limit the game to 30 overs aside.
Having won the toss, the visitors were put in to bat first. Tight bowling and fielding for the first 20 overs kept the score down to 65 for 2 with 10 overs remaining. However, as the ball became slippier in the wet conditions, the league leader’s batsmen took control and scored heavily in the final 10 to finish on 161 for 4 in their 30 overs.
It was always going to be a tall order to overcome that total as the weather deteriorated and the rain became more persistent, but the players toughed it out under a leaden sky with the Glas finally closing on n 119 for 2. A losing draw was therefore salvaged on a day which saw the worst weather conditions of the season to salvage a losing draw, Mark Jones finishing unbeaten on 35 and Ruch Nimantha 51 not out.
