It was with great sadness that we recently learnt of the death of one of Cae Glas’ founding members, Brian aka ‘Rusty’ Roberts. A fast Bowler, Rusty played right back in the early days when Peter Humphreys was a lad! Peter has recently shared some memories with me, recalling that the Cae Glas team would go back to the White Horse Pub on Church Street (pub long gone, of course, but white horse still marks the spot…) for a couple of jars. Despite the landlady’s protests (“Don’t forget – I haven’t got a Music Licence!”) Rusty would inevitably lead the cricketers in a noisy bout of back room singing. His contemporaries included John Gittins, Phil Rogers and the two Colins – Powell and Perkins.
After his playing career was over, Rusty continued to actively support the club and take a keen interest in its development.
Our condolences go to his family and wife, Dorothy at this sad time.
