It was definitely a case of ‘post tour fatigue’ which characterised the firsts’ bowling and fielding performance away against struggling Calverhall on Saturday!
Having made the important call in winning the toss and inserting the home side, some distinctly jaded bowling and fielding let the home side amass a very creditable 223 for 5 in their 35 overs. The exception to the woeful Cae Glas fielding and bowling display was Russ Turner who took an excellent catch and also engineered a superb run out.
Only Stav bowled anything like, taking 2-32 in his opening spell.
In reply a positive start was essential and this was provided with another 50 run opening partnership between Andy G (37) and Toothy (26) in the first 10 overs which set the platform for a magnificent 120 run partnership between Nick Morris(50) and the ever consistent Ruch Nimantha, who smashed 67 runs in what proved to be a match winning partnership.
There was still work to do when both were dismissed with 26 runs still to get, but an assured and intelligent innings of 16 not out from Aidan Martyn took us to a winning total of 225 for 4 to clinch victory with just 2 balls to spare. That’s called cutting it fine!
