The 1sts entered their last game of the season knowing that only a victory could give them a chance of becoming runners up in Division 3!  The game lived up to its thrilling expectations as we secured victory in the 47th over.

Skipper Keith was key in mopping up the tail in a superb spell taking 5 wickets for only 10 runs as Church Stretton were dismissed for 121.  This feat capped off a fine season for the veteran opening bowler!

Earlier the team had batted superbly to post 222 for 7 declared as Andy G (69) and Aidan Martyn, (57) despatched the Church Stretton attack to all parts of the ground.  .This was Aidan’s maiden league half century which came at just the right time to put the game out of reach.

Yappy’s bold decision to declare after 42 overs was to prove decisive as Church Stretton ‘shut up shop’ in an attempt to block out for a draw.

When he returned to the attack Stretton still had 3 wickets in hand, but once Peter Lee (60) was dismissed by Nick Morris  (2-20), in steamed the skipper in a devastating spell which saw him take the last 3 wickets in 3 overs to secure victory in the 47th over with only 6 balls remaining.

Sadly, Chelmarsh’s victory at Shrewsbury meant that the 1sts finished the season in 3rd place and have to wait on the league to find out if we are to be promoted.
