A comprehensive 7 wicket victory over local promotion chasing rivals, Oswestry 3rds, ensured that the Glas remain in contention for one of the top spots in Division 3.
Having won the toss, Oswestry chose to bat, and were soon in trouble with Tim Turner returning from injury and putting in an excellent opening spell to take 3 for 23 as the visitors struggled early on. However Dave Shaw (70) and Martin Chambers (52 not out) bolstered the middle order and guided Oswestry to 169 for the loss of 5 wickets in their 45 overs.
In reply, despite the loss of both openers early to excellent catches, Oswestry found the subsequent batting power of Nick M and the ever consistent Ruch, too much as they piled on the runs in a partnership of 130. At one point, both players were in a tit for tat race to see who’d get to their half century first!
Unfortunately for Nick, an attempted pull shot resulted in him being caught out on 49, leaving Ruch – who finished on 76 not out – to bat with Barry R. They continued to pile on the runs, taking us to a comfortable victory in 32 overs securing 24 points to aid the push for promotion.
