A devastating 6 over spell from Dave Smith and outstanding work in the field throughout, was the basis for another 6 wicket victory for the 2nds against Fenns Bank II last Saturday.
Fenns were asked to bat first and, after a watchful but steady start, stood at 83 for 4 with plenty of overs in hand and would have expected to go on and post a substantial total. Dave Smith, however, had other ideas and a spell of 6 masterly overs – 2 maidens and 4 wickets for 10 runs – ended any hope of a large total for the hosts as they collapsed to 116 all out.
In reply, as the pitch deteriorated, Glas wickets fell at regular intervals and at 79 for 4 the game stood in the balance.
Not for first time this season, the opposition’s second string attack was unable to provide the consistency that our bowlers have achieved throughout the season and an undefeated 5th wicket partnership of 38 between vice captain Timbo (23 not out) and Woody (22 not out) provided the momentum to carry The Glas over the finishing line. Gordon Bebbington took 3 for 23 for Fenns in a hostile opening spell.
Cae Glas 20 points Fenns Bank 2 points
