Cae Glas’s Division 2 campaign got off to a disappointing start away to Beacon on Saturday. Invited to bat on a wet wicket , Cae Glas were soon in trouble, losing both openers in the first two overs. Runs proved difficult to come by on the wide expanses of the Frankwell pitch and despite some determined knocks from Nick Morris, Gareth Edgerton and skipper Keith Yapp, some excellent ground fielding and catching from the home side restricted Cae Glas to 73 – 9 in their 35 overs.
In reply Cae Glas didn’t let Beacon have it all their own way, and had several difficult chances which could have swung the game. By the close Beacon had lost 5 wickets as they chased down the total. Edgerton took 2-17, and Ruch Nimantha took a hat trick of catches, including a bizarre low running catch at mid off as the ball cannoned of Edgerton’s knee cap in his follow-through.
