While the seconds’ fixture fell victim to the monsoon like conditions on Saturday morning, the firsts had better luck as they defied the weather to complete a game in almost perfect conditions at Condover.
Having lost the toss and being invited to bat, the Glas got off to a slow start against some excellent containing bowling from the Condover opening attack.
The loss of a couple of early wickets and the memories of the spectacular batting collapse last week held the normally fluid Ruch Nimantha in check. However, we were able to amass 141 for the loss of only 4 wickets in our 40 overs. A late flurry in the last 5 overs from Ruch – who ended up on 68 not out – and Aidan on 22 not out, brought some respectability to the total.
Earlier in the innings, Gaz’s good batting form had continued as he contributed a very useful, albeit slow and patient 30.
In reply Condover rarely struggled as they reached their target and finished on 142 for 4. Cae Glas completed a miserable afternoon with a lack lustre bowling and fielding performance which led to a comfortable victory for the home side as they won with 6 overs to spare. Ruch and Toothy, who finished with 2 wickets apiece ( for 30 and 38 runs respectively) were the pick of the Cae Glas attack.
For Condover, Barnes (63 not out) and A Mottram (27 not out) saw the home side past the visitors’ total.
