Cae Glas I vs Tibberton I – End of Season Victory Tinged with Sadness

Cae Glas completed their league campaign with an emphatic 4 wicket victory over the Division champions at Tibberton on Saturday. Star of the Cae Glas fielding performance was opening bowler Tom Gardener, who finished an excellent season with a five wicket haul returning 5 for 36 as he ripped through the top order. Ruch Nimantha took 3 for 23, and Robin Edwards 2 for 18 to ensure that the champions were dismissed for 86.

Sadly a tea time telephone call to Cae Glas hero Tom Gardener revealed the sudden death of his father, and despite both sides being prepared to abandon the game, he insisted the game be completed and in an emotional team talk urged the Cae Glas batsmen to go out and win the game in memory of his father.

They duly obliged and despite a spell of hostile bowling from the league champions that saw the visitors slip to 42 for 5, as Dovey took 3 for 12, they weatherd the storm and Ian Holgate (24 not out) and Tim Turner put together a stand of 27 to take Cae glas to a well deserved victory.
