With the threat of rain the match was reduced to 35 overs and Cae Glas were asked to bat first. They got off to a very quick start helped by some wayward Allscott bowling and kept up the attack throughout their innings. George Candler hit 28, Tim Smith 27, and Aled Roberts and Nathan Bartram hit 37 each with some wonderful attacking strokes, Cae Glas ending up on 186-4.
Early wickets, two each for Matt Coulson (2-26 off 6) and Shaun Southern (2-37 off 13) kept Allscott quiet although Tim Clare punished anything remotely loose in his excellent 82. At one point Allscott looked like they may overhaul Cae Glas, however two wickets for Pete Bowyer (2-17 off 4), a flurry of excellent catches and a run out meant that Cae Glas had four balls at Allscott’s last man to win. He held firm though, Allscott ended on 148-9, and the game ended in a winning draw for Cae Glas, who took a creditable 16 pts to Allscott’s 6 pts.
By the way, I asked for some pics – saying, even a rabbit on the pitch would do – and that’s what Shaun sent me…….
