Cae Glas’s run of poor form continued as they visited local rivals Ellesmere in Shropshire league Division 2 on Saturday. Batting first, they again failed to dominate the bowling, and only a well struck 49 from Barry Richards allowed them to post a reasonable, but below par, 146 for 8 in their 45 overs.
Jason Wordonan took 3 for 38 for the home side.
In reply Ellesmere’s innings got off to an explosive start as a full toss was smashed for 6 off the first ball, which was to set the tone for the first 10 overs, with anything loose being flayed to all parts of the ground, and none of the Cae Glas bowlers were able to get into any rhythm until Skipper Keith Yapp briefly threatened to spoil the party as he removed danger man Jonny Mitchell, but not before he’d scored a quickfire 48. The arrival of Joe Birch (35 no) and Tristam Lloyd (37no) continued in the same manner, and Ellesmere reached their victory target for the loss of only 3 wickets with plenty of overs to spare. Cae Glas must now re-group and get back to winning ways when they entertain basement side Much Wenlock at Gatacre next Saturday.
