Match Report – Cae Glas 1st XI vs Church Aston – 22nd June

Sterling work by Cae Glas ground staff ensured that the pitch remained unaffected by overnight rain and Cae Glas made the most of a cracking batting surface after being invited to bat by their visitors.

Against tight bowling the home side made steady progress with Ben Oakley (50) and Andy Griffiths (41) leading the way with selective stroke play, supported by Mark Jones (20) and Ruch Nimantha (23) which ensured a challenging total of 186-7 was posted in their 40 overs.

In reply, skipper Keith Yapp had a dream start taking 2 wickets with the first two balls of the Church Aston innings.

Terrific catching and fielding by the home side had Church Aston struggling at 46 – 6, but a spirited comeback by Hajdasz (47) and Jani (23) allowed the visitors to bat out the 40 overs despite a late burst of 3-10 from RuchNimantha.

Church Aston finished on 134-9 to give Cae Glas another winning draw ensuring they remain in contention at the top of Division 3.
