The winning run of Cae Glas 2nd XI had to end sometime and it was an away trip to Tibberton II that proved their undoing as they were literally ‘Barged aside’, Richard Barge, on a rare step down from Tibberton 1st XI duties, hitting a blistering and chanceless undefeated 131 to steer his side home by 8 wickets.
Put into bat, things had begun a little sticky for the visitors as they found themselves on 11 for 2, but George Candler (56) held the innings together with his second half-century in 8 days, and the middle order did their part in reaching a respectable total of 201 for 8 from their 40 overs. Tim Smith hit 33, Shaun Southern 23, Nathan Bartram 22 and Skipper Barry Vaughan remained 18 not out.
For Tibberton it was again Richard Barge who did most of the damage, taking 3 wickets.
In reply, after a watchful start, the home openers soon got into their stride and Barge and skipper Mike Jenkins (55) put on 157 before the first wicket fell. In the end they eased to their target, with Barge still at the crease, for the loss of only two wickets. Tim Smith and Barry Vaughan were the only visiting bowlers to have any reward with a wicket each. A tough lesson for The Glas but one they will, no doubt, bounce back from.
Tibberton 20 points Cae Glas 5 points.
