Dear Cae Glas Friends and Colleagues,
2013 Season Summary and Christmas Wishes
After the disappointment of the weather in the 2012 season, 2013 more than made up for it with one of the best summers we’ve had in the last 20 years.
And what a year we had on the pitch!! For only the second time in the club’s history, both 1st and 2nd XI’s were promoted.
Thanks and congratulations to all the players who made it so successful – particularly to all those who contributed to the 2nd XI’s brilliant season, losing out on the league title in the last game by the narrowest of margins.
The 1st XI too had a great season, finishing 3rd in their league.
Thanks too, to all those who contributed so much off the pitch. Steve Oakley for his work on the square at Gatacre, and Tracy Edgerton, whose teas have been the envy of the county.
Thanks also to our generous sponsors. In particular James and Lexy at the Oak, who have looked after us superbly all year.
Next year promises to be equally as exciting, with plans for Gatacre being the primary focus of attention. Special mention must be made here to recognise Janet Marsden’s hard work for “setting the wheels in motion” on that project. We’ve already received positive support for our plans from the ECB (English Cricket Board), and Shropshire & Telford & Wrekin’s Energize Sports Initiative, which I’m sure will help to raise the profile of our plans for redevelopment with Sport England and other fund holders, and help to galvanise the support of other potential users of the Gatacre facility both in sporting terms and as a community hub for other activities.
Finally, thanks to all of my colleagues on the committee for their contribution and support during the year. Without their input, the club couldn’t function. A special thanks to Andy Dibnah, who, after over 20 years of service as club secretary has decided to take a well deserved rest.
With regard to our Sponsors………please don’t forget them at this time of year, they support us financially, it would be nice if we can return the favour when we’re making our seasonal purchases or socialising over the festive period. See our sponsors’ page for details!
We’ve also got the first social date for your diaries for 2014. We have a Fun sports and general knowledge quiz night arranged just before the season starts down at Morda road, on Saturday March 8th. Further details will be circulated nearer the time, as will details of the AGM which will be held towards the end of January. As well as dealing with all the usual AGM stuff, it will also be the chance to get an update on our work to upgrade the pavilion. Let’s make it the best attended AGM ever!
All that remains is for me to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year for you and your families.
All the Very Best
