Last year was the first time that we’d participated in the NatWest Cricket Force initiative. It’s a national event aimed at mobilising players, club officials and community volunteers alike to pick up their paint brushes and get out the roller prior to the commencement of each season.
Last year’s focus was on doing up the changing rooms.
This year we concentrated our efforts on getting the equipment ready and ensuring that the pitch was as ready as it possibly could be. It’s difficult to think back to cold weather now, but the late snow really put back preparations in many parts of our region.
As usual, club member, Deb Hipkiss, was a key player in the organisation of the Cricket Force Day which took place over the weekend of 6th/7th April. Thanks to all those who took part.
Being an employee of the bank, Deb was also able to apply for a community grant on our behalf. I’m happy to report that we were awarded £500! Everyone owes Deb a big thank you, not only for her efforts with regard to Cricket Force, but also for the sterling work she has done, and continues to do as a hard working committee member and organiser of the 20/20 mid week side.
