Cae Glas entered the win/lose format of the Shropshire league hoping to show better form with the bat than they have thus far managed to muster. as they made the journey to picturesque Church Stretton on Saturday. Having surprisingly opted to bat first, the home side opening pair of Pete Lee and Saf Khalid showed the visitors the way with an opening stand of 100, on a tricky pitch. Khalid making 56 and Lee 37 before both falling to Gary Davies after the drinks break. Gabriel Williams kept the momentum going with a brisk 27 as the home side closed on a creditable 180 for 9 in their 40 overs. Pick of the Cae Glas bowling attack was Dave Edwards with 4 for 22 at the end, Gary Davies with 3 for 35 from his 8 overs and Matt Coulson, with 2 for 45. In reply, Cae Glas openers Barry Richards and Ben Hipkiss started brightly enough, putting on 36 for the first wicket, but as in previous weeks, nobody managed to put together a significant partnership and wickets fell steadily as the visitors were dismissed for 131 in the 34th over. Ben Hipkiss top scoring with 26. For Church Stretton the bowling honours were shared, with Lee, Williams and Justice each picking up a brace and old Cae Glasian, Keith Yapp picking up the solitary wicket of Barry Richards in his 8 over spell against his former club. Cae Glas will be hoping for better things as they entertain Acton Reynald at Gatacre on Saturday.
