Cae Glas entertained fellow mid table side Church Stretton at Gatacre on Saturday in a game reduced to 30 overs by the inclement weather. Batting first, Church Stretton started postively and were 92 for 1 at the half way stage, Saff Khalid leading the way with a breezy 36. However Stretton collapsed to 115 all out, thanks largely to a 5 wicket haul from Nick Broadbent, who bowled with superb control to take 5 for 18 from his 6 overs. He was ably supported by Dave Edwards who bowled equally well to take 3 for 17 from his 6 overs.
In reply, a lively opening spell from Ed Groom and nagging accuracy from former Cae Glas skipper Keith Yapp, kept the run rate down and despite a brief flurry from Gary Davies and Matt Coulson, who made 23 and 22 respectively, Cae Glas struggled to up the rate when required. Some suicidal running accounting for Barry Richards and Gaz Edgerton, meant that skipper Pete Bowyer and Dave Edwards settled for the draw, as the home side’s innings closed on 92 for 8
