This week the seconds had to battle the adverse weather conditions, as well as the opposition, as they took the long journey across the county to take on Forton II.
Due to a delayed start, the game was reduced to 35 overs a side. The visitors were asked to bat by their hosts and produced an excellent start, racing to 72 before the loss of their first wicket in the 14th over. Nick Chesters (23) and Pete Matthews (33) led the way and Simon Wood (19), Tim Smith (22) and Dave Taylor (36) kept up the momentum, before Shaun Southern smashed 45 of the last 56 runs, including two huge sixes in the final over, remaining undefeated and taking the team to 206 for nine from their allotted overs. For Forton there were two wickets each for Rob Woodhall, Tom Vickers and skipper Richard Jackson.
In reply, Forton struggled from the off against tight bowling and some excellent work in the field. Several interruptions for bad weather only delayed the inevitable outcome, with only Chris Mckee seriously troubling the scorers with a classy 53 not out, as Forton finished some way off the pace at 103 for seven. John Clarke and Andy Hughes took two wickets apiece as The Glas ended with maximum winning draw points.
