About us

Based in the border market town of Oswestry, Cae Glas Cricket Club was founded  in 1952.

Our 1st XI plays in Division 2 of the FBC Manby Bowdler LLP Shropshire Cricket League

We were also the first cricket club in Shropshire to welcome female players.

We play our cricket at the picturesque Gatacre playing fields, in the lee of Old Oswestry – an Iron Age hill fort.

The whole area has the coveted Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field status so is protected for ever against future development.

At Cae Glas there’s a style of cricket to suit everyone, whether you’re looking for competitive league cricket or friendly social games.  We welcome male and female players of all abilities!

Our teams

We currently run the following teams:

  • Cae Glas 1st XI, who play in Division 3 of the Henshalls Insurance Brokers Shropshire County Cricket League
  • Cae Glas 2nd XI, who play in Reserve Division 3 of the same league
  • A mid-week friendly team who play in Division 5 (Amber) of the Saxonby and Dell  Shrewsbury and District Evening Cricket League – 20/20 format.

We also arrange a varied programme of evening and occasional Sunday friendly matches, and an annual cricket tour to Worcestershire and Herefordshire ensures a lively mix of matches and socialising!

Cae Glas players

After match socialising is an important part of every game!

After every home match, we gather at The Oak on Church Street which serves a range of real ale beers.  Proprietors James and Lexy  provide refreshments, including barbecue food, served in the beer garden.

Cae Glas is a club which inspires loyalty due to its friendly ambience and genuine openness to newcomers.  Why not find out for yourself?

If you want to play for us or get involved in any other way, get in touch via our contact page. We’ll be happy to hear from you.

New members are always welcome.
