Things weren’t looking good at Gatacre on Saturday when visitors Shrewsbury III reduced the home side to 37 for 5
inside the first 12 overs. Only a patient and dogged resistance from Tim T(35) and Griffer who put on 60 for the 6th wicket got the score any where near respectability, and when they were both out, looking to accelerate the rate in the last 10 overs with the score on 98, the last 3 wickets fell for 13 runs, leaving Cae Glas with the task of defending a score of only 113.
Having conceded 7 overs by being bowled out in the 36th over, the game was never going to be a draw, and so it proved. 2 quick wickets from Tim T started the Cae Glas response, but runs were being conceded too readily, so a tactical change by the skipper Yappy to bring himself on to tighten things up steadied the ship and a fine spell of bowling from Ruch at the other end, aided by some top quality catching, including a stunning one-handed swooping effort from Robin Edwards at cover, brought deserved rewards. The home side bowling out Shrewsbury for 81 to secure 24 valuable points. Ruch
finished with 5 for 35.
