Gatacre witnessed over 450 runs, two unbeaten centuries and the fall of only six wickets this week as the 2nd XI defeated Shifnal IV in an enthralling game dominated by batsmen throughout.
In sweltering temperatures, it was perhaps not surprising that the visitors chose to bat, leaving The Glas to toil for 45 overs at the hottest time of the day.
On a true pitch and with a lightning fast outfield, not even an early unfortunate injury to opener and captain Dave Brammer could halt Shifnal’s run accumulation. Led by an undefeated century from Richard Gough (109 not out) the visitors finished on 227 for 3, with a wicket each for Shaun Southern, John Clarke and Nick Morris.
In reply it was Morris (105 not out) who returned the compliment, reaching his own undefeated century and going on to score the winning run with 16 balls to spare. Cae Glas finished on 228 for 3 with Nick Chesters (50) showing a welcome return to form and Gavin Porritt also plundering 33.
