It’s been a long hard summer on more than just the cricketing front. As a previous Club News article has informed you all, work is now well in hand on the plans for replacing the worn out Gatacre Pavilion.
A sub-committee of the club comprising Griffer, Janet and Christine (Pete B’s wife) have spent the summer working together on various aspects of the club’s development – negotiating a lease with the Council; consulting other pavilion user groups; putting together a project plan and working with another club member, Gavin to draw up some detailed plans of what a newly revamped club house would look like.
Back in late May, an application was submitted to WREN to secure up to £50,000 of funding. Then, in early November, a further application (which demanded a whole new lot of information and data!) was submitted to Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund for a similar amount.
The outcome of the WREN bid is expected in early December; the Inspired Facilities result will not be known until April.
This means that building work will not commence on the pavilion until next September at the earliest. However, that will give us time to approach possible sponsors in order to secure the highest value funding package available.
