Sat 5 June, Allscott III v Cae Glas II

We are all aware that Cae Glas skippers are useless tossers so the calling of the coin was entrusted to new Vice Captain Elliot (lucky) Coulson. Good decision. Having won the toss and with a team bursting with batting we went against the norm and batted first on a very warm day with a good pitch and a quick outfield.

Paul England, on debut, (40) and Nigel Evans (16) started well with a solid opening stand of 35. Enter Elliott , who scored a superb 58 on what must be his favorite ground having scored 79 on his previous visit. 90-2 at half way was a a great platform with the every stylish Andy Kemp (38*) and aggressive hitting from Shaun Southern (15*) saw Cae Glas close on a more than respectable 219-5 off their 40 overs. Opposition skipper Gary West was the pick of the bowlers with 2-43.

For Allscott, Gary West (16) started quickly hitting the first 2 balls of the reply for 4 before Simon Dean (2-23) and Matt Wedderkopp with a career best of 4-23 took control with tight bowling. Kev Mc Dade , also with a career best , (3-22) and the luckless Tarik Bodasing (1-17) mopped up the tail giving Cae Glas an emphatic victory by 132 runs to kick start their season after three washouts.

A real all round team performance with everyone playing a part. A grand day out……
